The next six weeks is going to be a blow for Apple. Because no one is going to spend money on their accessories, for iPhones that is. We're also urging you not to be buy any accessories if you're already planning too. Why? Because there are significant changes coming to Apple's marquee handset, and those accessories that you buy now, will just be obsolete in six weeks.
The past several updates have given Apple owners some sense of security. Most accessories worked for most models, and in terms of change in case design, one could have thought that Apple's design for its docking pin connector would remain the same. In six weeks, those things will be obsolete. Let's take a look at some of the stuff that's going out of flavor:
The new iPhone;s most drastic change is going to be its dock connector, where it gets shrunk down to a 19 pin port from 30 pins. As 9to5 Mac points out, you're about to see a ton of 30-pin dock connector fire sales. But don't fall for it. Because nothing will work when the new iPhone comes out with a skinnier port.
Will they be making an adapter for this? To connect old models to new ones? Perhaps. Chances are it's most likely.
Most cases for models might not fit each other. The 3G and 3GS don't fit the 4 and 4S, but they do have some similarities for each numbered models. We don't know how the new iPhone is going to look just yet, but chances are, it's not going to fit your 4 or 4S model's size.
It's best to wait it out. After all, six weeks isn't really that hard, as compared to say, a year? Cables, chargers, adapters, etc.—these things aren't going to work with Apple's next-gen smartphone. So from now till six weeks later, let's just be cool.
