5D technology, hasn't even existed yet, but Apple has already been granted a patent for it. 5D is essentially an aggressive marketing ploy for a patent that has a gigantic range of applications from watching TV to gaming and more.
The system Apple proposes harnesses gesture controlled gaming in the style of Kinect or Wii, video conferencing and virtual reality gloves for what could be a super immersive home entertainment experience. As for now, its all up to speculation just what sort of applications this kind of patent could bring. But its gloves, as described, could change resistances to electromagnetic forces, heat or air and others.
Which in turn also also covers tactile feedback technology, and has the ability to start a futuristic car or signal a device through a handprint instead of any sort of key or button. Apple's 5D future involves touchscreens that don't need a capacitive panel and could be used on any material.
