Even though Research in Motion may be losing money fast and fighting rumors of their impending doom, they're still staying the course. Now, BlackBerry users can enjoy a new version of Twitter on their smartphones. But does it really matter?

Twitter for BlackBerry version 3.1 adds more detail and context to tweets, according to a corporate blog post announcing the update on Monday. BlackBerry users can see full resolution photos from pic.twitter.com and RIM maps for geotagged tweets, according to product manager Brian Frank.

The relatively late additions could easily be interpreted as another sign of BlackBerry’s diminished importance and declining status in the smartphone landscape.

To recap more grim news, RIM revealed last month that BlackBerry sales had dropped 43% on the previous quarter, and the company is expected to cut thousands of jobs to curtail costs. Last week, RIM lost $147 million in a California patent dispute verdict.

But despite that, BlackBerry still has millions of users. At least, these are the ones still hanging on tight and not jumping ship to another platform just yet.
