A new rumor / theory about the new iPhone 5, or whatever Apple is going to call it, could be a 19 pin port that would mechanically and electrically be compatible with the micro-USB standard. This sounds like one heck of a good idea.
The theory is Apple would have engineered the new dock connector to comply with the European Union directive to standardize chargers around micro-USB. Thus, making the iPhone compatible with the standard set by the European Standardisation Bodies CEN-CENELEC and ETSI as well as Open Mobile Terminal Platform.
If true, it would be good news for consumers. They would be able to use any micro-USB cellphone charger and they would be able to keep their current peripherals working with the new iPhone by using an adapter like this one, imagined by Italian blog
