Apple is about to pull the plug on their social network Ping, in the next release of iTunes, according to an All Things Digital report citing sources close to the company.

Apple CEO Tim Cook hinted that Apple has all but given up on Ping in May, but there was no talk or rumor on killing the service.

“We tried Ping and I think the customer voted and said this isn’t something I want to put a lot of energy into,” said Cook.

Most of their products have been tremendously successful in the last few years, though the company's social network seems to be poorly received with lukewarm interests in it.
