We've posted this one before, where there was a
study and mention on the tightness of pants correlating to sperm count. And boy did it throw off our geek fashionista persona.
Most medical guidelines suggests that sperm count can be set back by a manner of enjoyable activities like drinking, smoking, or even taking that occasional recreational drug to eating unhealthy food. It turns out, now to back the study of tight pants and sperm count a new
study, suggests there's only one thing you really need avoid: tight pants.
Published in the journal
Human Reproduction, it compared 900 men with low sperm counts to 1,300 with high sperm counts. The use of drugs, smoking and alcohol had little effect when comparing the count, nor did being overweight really mattered.
The only thing that made a big difference was how snug pants and underwear were. One of the researchers, Allan Pacey explained:
"There is no need for men to become monks just because they want to be a dad. But if they are a fan of tight Y-fronts, then switching underpants to something a bit looser for a few months might be a good idea."
Testicles need to be a degree or two cooler than body temperature to make good quality sperm. But by buying a tight pair of pants or a snug piece of underwear, it keeps them too close to the body. Heat isn't your friend.
So, if you're trying for a baby, drink, eat and smoke as much you like but just make sure you let your boys hang as much as nature intended for.
