Social media has played a role in popular uprisings in the Arab World since December 2010. But despite the buzz, only 0.26% of the Egypt population and 0.1% of the Tunisian population and 0.04% of the Syrian population are active on Twitter.
Twitter is most popular in Kuwait, where 8.6% are active users. In other social media uses, Facebook's popularity trumps Twitter. In UAE, there's some 36.18% of population on Facebook.
