Here's a breathing apparatus that's convenient for those who don't want to be turning and twisting their heads up for air when swimming. The PowerBreather, takes a design cue from dolphins, which lets you breath out the back of your head.

The device is essentially a fully enclosed snorkle, and it wraps securely around the swimmer's head. So instead of turning around to breath, the valve on the back of the head lets you inhale and exhaling expels it through a second valve in the mouthpiece.

The swimmer then gets to keep his head down and focus on the technique without worrying about gulping water. It's also supposed to help simplify the act of swimming and make it more relaxing and enjoyable, especially for kids.

Obviously, it's not going to be used for competitive sport, but it could be useful in addition to an amateur's training. [http://www.powerbreather.de/facts/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">Powerbreather via Gizmag]
