Sun Jifa lost both his hands when a homemade bomb exploded, so he spent the past 8 years making prototype bionic hands until he figured out the system he has now. Sun, 51, could not afford prosthetic arms from the hospital so he decided to create his own piece of technology using scrap metal that worked with a bunch of wires and pulleys inside of the metal. Sun explains:
"I control them with movements from my elbows and I can work, live
normally and feed myself just like anyone else... The only drawback is
that steel is quite heavy so they're tiring to wear and get hot or cold
in the extremes of summer and winter
"I made this from scrap metal for virtually nothing. There is no need to pay hospitals a fortune"
Once he accomplished his goal, the humble Sun revealed that he has plans to continue making bionic arms for other disabled people who can't afford hospital versions.
What an amazing guy.
