The iPhone's design is minimalistic enough, and utilitarian. Which is surprising because in some of the leaked early iPhone and iPad prototypes looked terrible. Early iPhone 4 prototype shows off edges and angles because, they didn't want to stick to the simple rounded designs. One iPad prototype even had a disgusting kickstand.

The pictures of these iPhone and iPad prototypes were found in court documents by BuzzFeed and the Verge. Then, there's the iPod Nano inspired iPhone 4 prototype made with brushed aluminum and complete with rounded corners. Not too bad actually. And another iPhone protoype labeled n90 actually looked great. It was also impossibly thin.
